Maile Collmer’s Story
Growing up I was painfully shy and had a difficult time fitting in. When I was 9, we moved from Hawaii to California and I had to start in a new school. Walking into that new classroom – shy, alone, knowing no one – I was afraid no one would talk to me. I was afraid people would talk to me, what would I say? Fortunately, Paula Horn and Evelyn Aaron decided to befriend me. They were well connected and introduced me around – opening doors.
After entering the business world, I found myself in a similar situation when I walked into the extremely crowded Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce. I could handle this. Pulling from my experience from school, I started making one connection at a time.
I believe in individual excellence as well as team excellence. A team can do so much more than an individual, and excellent teams are made of excellent individuals doing their part.
Referrals are a team sport, and I built a referral team that helped me climb into the top 5% of realtors in Contra Costa County. Now, I help others build their referral teams to take them to the top of their fields.
When not networking, I enjoy playing golf, wine tasting, dancing, and travel. I’m a fan of football and baseball and especially love my UCLA Bruins! Actually, I frequently combine these fun activities with networking. Because, for me, networking and referrals are a way of life!
